Asia Solar 2010 – Shanghai AiExpo Exhibition Services Co., Ltd

Introduction

Backed up by the world’s most rapid and dynamic growth, and possessing an enormous market, the growth of China’s solar PV industry has in recent years far exceeded the global average. The state government is also encouraging development. On March 26, the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Housing & Urban-Rural Development jointly issued the Solar Roofs Program, aimed at giving financial subsidies to Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) application projects. China New Energy Chamber of Commerce is working together with the Ministry of Construction to establish a solar PV industry alliance to resolve matters like subsidy standards, the subsidy application process, etc. The Solar Roofs Program is a Golden Sun project jointly promoted by the Department of Science & Technology and Ministry of Finance. The concrete measures for implementation are currently being formulated, and will hopefully appear soon. The project will undertake subsidies for the promotion of domestic solar PV electricity generation, with particular emphasis on solar PV generating plants and grid-connected power technology. The National Energy Administration has reported to the Department of State in its Plan on the Development of New Energy that solar energy power generating capacity scale will increase from 1.8 million kW to 10 million kW.

Objectively speaking, China’s serious environmental situation is in urgent need of finding renewable energy sources, which is an excellent foundation for growth in the Chinese solar PV industry. Against this backdrop, China New Energy Chamber of Commerce (CNECC) has joined forces with China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Shanghai Pudong Sub-Council to hold the Fifth AsiaSolar Photovoltaic Exhibition, starting on March 30, 2010. The exhibition will run simultaneously with the Fifth AsiaSolar PV Industry Forum.

The event will invite solar PV organizations from overseas including Germany, Spain and the USA to share their experience of the overseas PV market and introduce their development plans. Various experts from Chinese government departments like the Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Construction, and Ministry of Finance will introduce initiatives and subsidy policies like the Solar Roofs Program and the Golden Sun Solar Program, and outline the overall domestic development plan for solar PV, as well as detailing the various initiatives for development of the solar PV market at the provincial and urban levels. It is expected that Building Integrated Photovoltaics and grid-connected PV generating systems will become the talking points at this year’s forum.

Many international solar PV system integration companies have already accepted the invitation to deliver a speech at the forum.

2009 Review

The Fourth AsiaSolar PV Exhibition and Forum was held successfully from 30th March to 1st April, 2009 at Shanghai Mart. The event brought together many famous institutes, industry experts and well-known enterprise leaders in the field of solar PV, both from home and abroad. The opening ceremony enjoyed the participation of many well-known industry figures, including Dr. Shi Zhengrong, Dr. Yang Liyou, Dr. Qu Xiaohua and Dr. Sun Haiyan. The number of exhibitors enjoyed a 50% increase in comparison with 2008, while the number of visitors almost doubled, reaching 25,000, of which 4,500 came from overseas. Around 200 of the exhibiting enterprises made on-site deals with buyers.

More than 10 domestic and international media visited the event to make on-site reports, including CCTV-4 and Reuters. Various well-known industry magazines including Shine, Sunshine Energy, Solar Energy, Silicon Industry Online, and many other industry publications produced in-depth and wide-ranging reports on AsiaSolar 2009.
