Kotak Urja installs Solar Water Heater in Fortis Hospitals
After the notification from Delhi government on the mandatory use of Solar Water Heaters in all commercial organisations where hot water is required, the hospitals and hotels have started taking action.
Kotak Urja recently has installed solar water heaters in 4 hospitals in Delhi including all Fortis hospitals. Located at South Delhi’s biggest residential complex-Vasant Kunj, Fortis Flt. Lt. Rajan Dhall Hospital, currently has 6 operating theaters and 107 operational inpatient beds, with installed capacity for up to 200 beds. SolarIndiaOnline.com visited Fortis Flt. Lt. Rajan Dhall Hospital where Kotak Urja has recently installed Solar Water Heater on its rooftop.
Kotak Urja has installed a 5,500 litres/ day solar water heater with 44 Flat Plate collector panels. The panels and the tank have been installed on the roof of the hospital in an area of about 60 square meters. This Solar Water Heater can heat the water upto a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius. Kotak Urja has installed Heat Exchanger to maintain temperature at 60 degree Celsius and hospital staff can adjust the temperature according to the need. The tank has also been linked to auto machine which automatically fills the water in the tank. The system has also been installed with Air Release Valve (ARV) and Pressure Release Valve (PRV) to control the pressure of water upto 4kgs. After the notification from Delhi government on the mandatory use of Solar Water Heaters in all commercial organisations where hot water is required, the hospitals and hotels have started taking action.

Kotak Urja installs Solar Water Heater in Fortis Hospitals
The total cost of the system is around 12 lakhs (US$ 24000) and company is expecting a payback period of 3-4 years. The system is expected to reduce the use of diesel to 40% by the hospital. However electrical back up has been given to the system if there is no sunshine.
Fortis hospital is also eligible to get the subsidy under the Delhi government rebate scheme. The city announced a rebate scheme that includes subsidies of Rs. 6,000/- for every solar water heating system producing 100 litres of hot water per day and up to a maximum amount of INR 60,000 for a solar water heating system with an output of 1,000 litres/day. Kotak Urja has installed solar water heaters in all Fortis hospitals in Delhi and is also expected to install the water heaters in the upcoming hospital in Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi in September this year.
