PVSEC 2009: Q-Cells to present new products and innovations under new umbrella brand strategy
- Unveiling of the new model of the world’s most powerful thin-film module, the SL1, and the new monocrystalline solar cell, Q6LMX3
- Introduction of the new brands “Q-Cells Modules” and “Q-Cells Systems”
Q-Cells has built up an impressive portfolio in thin-film technology. The Thalheim-based company will be exhibiting what is currently the world’s most powerful series-produced thin-film module, an enhancement of the SL1 from Solibro, at the 24th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (PVSEC), taking place from 21 to 25 September 2009 in Hamburg. The modules achieve a unique efficiency of 12% ex-works. In addition, the SL2 prototype will be presented to the trade public for the first time. Q-Cells also has a new product for the solar cell market. The full-square monocrystalline 6-inch cell, the Q6LMX3, delivers an impressive efficiency boost up to 5% inside the module and an attractive dark homogeneous colour.
A national marketing campaign has recently doubled the company’s brand awareness. Ahead of the industry event at Congress Center Hamburg, Q-Cells announces its intention to rigorously pursue the new brand strategy. As part of this strategy, the thin-film modules produced by the company’s subsidiaries, such as Solibro GmbH, will be marketed as “Q-Cells Modules” in future. This move will bring thesuccessful thin-film technologies of Solibro and Calyxo under the umbrella brand of Q-Cells and, with that, into the company’s core business. The project developer Q-Cells International presents at the PVSEC for the first time its product range and current major projects under the new “Q-Cells Systems” brand. Q-Cells’ project segment will be presenting. Visitors can find Q-Cells in Hall B6, Booth 72.
About Q-Cells SE
Founded in 1999, Q-Cells SE is today one of the largest manufacturers’ of solar cells worldwide with
some 2,400 employees. In 2008 the company produced mono- and polycrystalline solar cells with a
total performance of approximately 574 megawatt peak and delivered them worldwide to manufacturers of solar modules. A new production facility in Malaysia was established in April 2008 and started production this year. More than 200 scientists and engineers at Q-Cells are working on advancing the technology so as to achieve the objective of the company – reducing photovoltaic costs quickly and on a sustained basis and making them competitive. In addition to the activities in its core business, from 2008 onwards several Q-Cells SE subsidiaries have been producing photovoltaic modules on the basis of various thin-film technologies. Furthermore a company called Q-Cells International with focus on large solar parks and rooftop installations will extend the business of Q-Cells and provides planning, construction and maintenance for such projects. Above that Q-Cells Clean Sourcing established a new business segment by providing industrial customer with green energy. Q-Cells SE has branches in Italy, France, Hong Kong, China, Japan and the USA. The company is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (QCE; ISIN DE0005558662) and included in the TecDAX, the German technology index.
